If you’re managing an e-commerce site or any large website, it’s crucial to keep an eye on your Google Search Console, particularly the “Googlebot type” report found in the Crawl Stats section.

If you notice that “Page resource load” is taking up 50% or more of your Googlebot activity, this is a sign that Google is spending a lot of time rendering and loading resources like images, CSS, and JavaScript.

In the example from the screenshot, 36% of Google’s crawl budget is used just for loading page resources. This suggests that Googlebot is working hard to render the page as a user would see it in a browser.

A high percentage of page resource load can indicate that Google’s bots are spending too much time on these non-essential tasks, which might slow down the indexing of your actual content (text, metadata, etc.).

This can lead to delays in how quickly your site’s updates are reflected in search results.

To access this, go to Google Search Console > Settings > Crawl Stats. If you see a high percentage under “Page resource load,” optimize your resources (minify, compress, defer loading) to ensure Googlebot spends more time indexing your valuable content and less time on resource-heavy tasks.
